When it comes to buying a laptop computer, there are some certain things that you should be willing to keep in mind. For example, you should pick the laptops up at the store, because you want to be able to select one that is solid and sturdy without being too heavy for you. You should also test out the keyboard, because the keyboard is not something that you can readily replace. Make sure that you are satisfied with both the responsiveness and the touch of the keyboard. If possible, put the laptop in your lap and see how comfortable it feels.

You are also going to want to test out the pointing device, the track ball and the track pad. You will use these regularly as an alternative to the mouse of a regular computer. You can still use a mouse with your laptop, but when you are on the go using a built-in device is generally going to be simpler and easier.

Check to feel how comfortable the laptop feels in your lap, especially when it is running. Does it get too hot when you are using it on your lap? This could be a problem if you plan on actually sitting with the laptop in your lap rather than on a table.

Make sure your computer will run the software programs you wish to run.  If you are using your computer for word processing and spread sheets with open office, make sure the laptop can handle it.  Or if you are using it for sharing and playing media files with aresgalaxy, ask if the laptop will run that.

Make sure that you pay attention to the size and resolution of the screen. Most current LCD or liquid-crystal display screens measure between 13 inches and 21 inches diagonally across them. The screen resolution could potentially be as low as only 800 by 600 in pixels or higher such as 1600 pixels x 1200 pixels. Keep in mind that more pixels create a crisper screen image. Make sure that you view the laptop screen in as many different angles as you can. A screen that seems to look great in one angle or type of lighting may look completely different in another.
